Time

The half marathon, marathon, and marathon relay start simultaneously at 7:00 a.m.
The 10K starts at 7:20 a.m.

The YMCA Kids' Marathon Mile will start at 7:30 a.m.

: Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 2nd. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour to be on time for the start.

Start & Finish Location

The marathon, half marathon, marathon relay and kids' marathon mile start and finish on Hillsborough Street at the historic NC State University Bell Tower.

The News & Observer Old Reliable 10K will start at the NC State Bell Tower and finish on Clark Street adjacent to Cameron Village.  The post-race runner festival is a five-minute walk from the 10K finish.  

Directions

From RDU airport, follow signs for I-40 East toward Raleigh. Once on I-40 East, drive 5 miles to Wade Avenue/North Raleigh and take the right-hand exit (right two lanes). Remain in the right lane and take the third exit onto South 440 / Hillsborough Street. Take South 440 to exit for Hillsborough / N.C. State University. Go east on Hillsborough to the NC State University Campus.

Timing

The Raleigh City of Oaks Marathon & Marathon Relay , Rex Healthcare Half Marathon, and News & Observer Old Reliable 10K will utilize the ChampionChip Timing system. Set Up Events will time all races and provide day-of-race results. (The YMCA Kids' Marathon Mile will not be timed).

Relay Info

Marathon Relay teams have four members. Relay leg distances vary from  5.2 miles to 8.3 miles, as follows:

  • 8.3 miles
    Lead-off leg #1. Runner starts at the N.C. State Bell Tower and finishes at mile marker 8.3 at Cameron Village. After completing the lead-off leg, the runner returns to the start/finish area via Oberlin Road (a five-minute walk).
  • 6.5 miles
    Leg #2. Runner walks to Cameron Village from the N.C. State Bell Tower for handoff. Leg starts at Cameron Village and finishes at Blue Ridge Rd. and Crabtree Valley Ave. behind Crabtree Valley Mall. After completing this leg, the runner returns to the start/finish area via race-provided transportation.
  • 5.2 miles
    Leg #3. Starts and finishes at Blue Ridge Rd. and Crabtree Valley Ave behind Crabtree Valley Mall. Transportation is provided to/from Crabtree Valley Mall from the NC State Bell Tower - buses positioned on Pullen Road adjacent to the Bell Tower. Buses depart immediately after the race starts at 7:00 AM. After completing this leg, the runner returns to the start/finish area via race-provided transportation.
  • 6.2 miles
    Anchor leg #4. Starts at Blue Ridge Rd. and Crabtree Valley Ave behind Crabtree Valley Mall. Transportation is provided to Crabtree Valley Mall from the start/finish line. Anchor leg finishes at the N.C. State Bell Tower.

Split times will be reported for each relay leg. The team captain creates the team name and registers and pays for the entire team. The team captain can then add or change team members later.

Packet Pickup

The Team Captain or designated team member should pick up all relay member bibs and race shirts at the Expo. It is then that designee’s responsibility to distribute them items to team members.

Bus Transportation: FOR RUNNERS ONLY - NO SPECTATORS

Buses will transport Relay Leg #3 and Relay Leg #4 runners to the Crabtree Valley Mall Relay Exchange Zone immediately after the race starts at 7:00 AM. The last bus will depart the NC State Bell Tower bus stop on Pullen Rd. at 7:30 AM.

Buses will run continuously from Crabtree Valley Mall transporting the Relay Runners back to the Bell Tower start / finish area.

Timing and Bibs

Relay Teams will be provided one timing chip which will be fastened to a neoprene ankle strap. That ankle strap will be handed off between relay team members. Each team member will receive two bibs. The numbered bib is worn on the front of each runner and the "non-numbered" RELAY bib will be worn on the back of each relay runner.

The last runner will receive all 4 relay team medals upon crossing the finish line.
